Video content plays a very important part in the Social Media landscape and this will only grow in 2017. Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat are very well know and actively used for the creation of video content. So far Twitter never managed to get success with their video possibility Periscope. Since a couple of months, Periscope is part of the Twitter app, which means that you don’t need to download the Periscope app on your phone to use live video. This is a good improvement but from my own experience I see less results with Twitter live video than I see with Facebook live video.
But Twitter is not giving up on live video. I guess they also see the big impact that live video content will have in 2017. That’s why they recently announced Periscope 360 video. Twitter’s official announcement says:
Starting today, you can check out live, interactive 360 videos from interesting broadcasters and explore what’s happening with them. You’ll be able to get an inside look with well-known personalities and go behind the scenes at exclusive events.
This means that users can watch live video’s via Periscope and get a 360 degree view of the video. While watching the video you can everything around the person who makes the video. The live 360 video’s are easy to recognize because of the LIVE 360 badge. When you move your phone or swipe your screen you get a full overview of the live video.

At the moment, everybody can watch live 360 video but only a selected group of partners can go live with the new feature. But the main question is, will this new feature help Twitter to gain more users on the platform? I do believe this will results in an uplift of usage for a few months but I’m not sure if this will make the difference that Twitter needs. What do you think?
