Social Media during the festive season

Christmas is coming! For a lot of people this means time off from work. Some companies close down and a lot of people go home to spend time with family and friends. For a lot of people means the festive season, switching off from work. I believe this is a very healthy thing to do but what a lot of people forget is that Social Media is always on, specially during this time of the year! But why is this and what does it mean?

We are all very connect and this means we spend a lot of time on Social Media. I think a lot of people don’t realize how often they check their Social channels. People see Social Media and work often as two separate things. This means that the time they spend on Social Media doesn’t decrease during the festive season, very often it increases! Think about it yourself, do you check your Social Media channels during Christmas or do you completely switch off? (And yes be honest!).

What does this mean for you? Well, when you are a Social Seller it is important to understand that you need to schedule some content for the festive season. You need to understand that your prospects and customers will be on Social Media but they are not very interested in product or sales specific content. The type of content you should share should be focused on support and advice, it is really important during this time of the year that you add value. Your prospects are switch off like you but they are always interested in ready relevant content!

When you use Social Media to build your personal brand the festive season is the perfect time to interact with people and to build relationships. People are more relaxed and have more time to reply to messages and to have conversations. Use this opportunity! Send personalized messages, focus on interacting with people and use this time to read interesting blog posts from people you want to engage with. It is also the perfect time of the year to write a blog post. This will help you to grow your personal brand. And if you have enough time you can even prepare some blog posts for January. The festive season is the perfect time of the year to build your personal brand!

When you are a small business owner the festive season can be very hectic. And maybe you work day and night up to Christmas eve. A lot of business owners stop marketing activities during the festive season. Email marketing isn’t the best way to communicate with your customers during this time of the year. But Social Media is! Make sure you have content prepared for the festive season. This time of the year is a great opportunity to reach your customers! People understand that you wouldn’t answer questions via Social Media during this time of the year but keep an eye on your channels. The fact that people have time off means that they will be active on Social Media. Make sure you are aware of what people say about you and what they ask you.

I believe everybody can benefit from Social Media during the festive season. As long as you understand what people do on Social Media and what type of content they will appreciate! Is your Social Media strategy ready for the festive season?

With love, from Dublin..
